Aplochelius & Epiplatys Killifish

We are combining two (2) genus of killifish because there is only a limited number of species of each available in the aquarium hobby.  You will note that they have similar body shapes.  The inhabit the top part of the aquarium and should be kept well covered to avoid fish loss due to the "Dramatic Darwin Leap".

Additional Information

Aplochelius Genus:   The aplochelius genus of killies are found in southern and southeast Asia. There are 7 species of Aplochelius killifish.

Aplochelius  killifish are plant spawners and therefore eggs are easily collected from spawning mops.  As with Aplochelius genus killifish the eggs and fry are large and newly hatched fry fish readily take newly hatched brine shrimp as their first food.

The most common in the aquarium hobby is the Apl. Lineatus and the gold (Golden Wonder) is the most common.  It is also a very easy killifish to keep, maintain and breed, therefore like the Fundulopanchax Gardneri and the Aphyosemion Australe, LIN-Gold is often someone's first killifish.

Epiplatys Genus:

There are 45 species of killifish in the Epiplatys genus.  Epiplatys  is a genus of fish in the family Aplocheilidae endemic to Africa as the name indicates. Several of these species are popular aquariumfish.

Epiplatys killifish are plant spawners and therefore eggs are easily collected from spawning mops.  As with Aplochelius genus killifish the eggs and fry are large and newly hatched fry fish readily take newly hatched brine shrimp as their first food.

The most common in the aquarium hobby is the pseudoepiplatys annulatus.
